Welcome to the 77th Annual
Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo
Fellow Anglers and Rodeo Supporters,
On behalf of the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, and Advisors, it is my pleasure to welcome you, as we mark two milestones this year, the 77th Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo and the 52nd Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament.
The Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo has continued its commitment to the conservation of Marine Resources as well as giving back to the Mobile community. The ADSFR continues to fund two scholarships for graduate studies in the Department of Marine Sciences at the University of South Alabama. The ADSFR has donated over $95,000 to the University of South Alabama (USA) Department of Marine Sciences and with the USA Foundation matching these funds; the total amount exceeds $190,000. The ADSFR also donated over $4,500 to the Mobile Jaycees to fund the chapters’ Christmas Shopping Tour. This event provides kids in local Children’s Homes an opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts for their friends and family and a very special thank you goes out to all of the anglers in the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament for helping us sponsor this event.
This year the ADSFR, on the request of USA’s Department of Marine Sciences, Dr. Bob Shipp, Dr. Sean Powers, and the State of Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, will help conduct stock assessments on Red Drum. For anglers interested in participating in this assessment, ADSFR is asking that each angler turn in only (1), and only 1, Red Drum during the entire ADSFR tournament, out of the “slot” to the weigh station on Dauphin Island which will then be turned over to USA’s Department of Marine Sciences for research. Furthermore, each angler who turns in a Red Drum will have their name entered into a random drawing of all anglers turning in a Red Drum for special prizes which include, but are not limited to, an original painting courtesy of Yellowfin Gallery and a lifetime saltwater fishing license courtesy of Victor Signs.
This year we have put together another outstanding awards package. We will be giving away a 21’ Contender boat courtesy of Contender Boats through a random drawing of all anglers who weigh in a legal fish during the ADSFR; a 17’ Scout 175 Sportfish boat courtesy of Scout Boats and Paradise Marine Center will be given away through a random drawing of all King Mackerel Jackpot entries; and a boatlift courtesy of Team SIMCO and IMM Boatlifts will be given away through a random drawing of all Speckled Trout Jackpot entries. Once again these boats will be outfitted with Yamaha outboard motors, Loadmaster aluminum trailers, and Eagle Towers T-Top on the Contender Boat. A Raymarine C80 Multifunction Navigation unit will be given away through a random drawing of all Raymarine Big Game Jackpot entries. Our Master Angler will receive a Furuno GP7000F/NT 7” Color Chart Plotter/ Fish Combo Unit courtesy of New World Electronics, which will put our total prize package in excess of $400,000. This year’s Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament, open to anglers 15 years old and younger, will be held on July 11th. Each participant will receive a Ziegler hotdog, Golden Flake potato chips, a Coca-Cola, Blue Bell ice cream, and a certificate of participation when they weigh-in their fish. This years Master Angler of the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament will receive a $500.00 Savings Bond courtesy of Alabama Family Dental.
I would like to thank all of the anglers, sponsors, and volunteers for your support of the 77th ADSFR. Special thanks go out to our Boat and Motor sponsors for their support of the random boat drawings; Contender Boats, Paradise Marine, Scout Boats, Yamaha Motor Corp., Loadmaster Trailers, and Eagle Towers. I would also like to thank Team Simco and IMM Boatlifts for sponsoring the Speckled Trout Jackpot, Exxon/Mobil for sponsoring the Roy Martin Young Anglers Tournament, Academy Sports and Outdoors for sponsoring the Awards Ceremony, as well as Furuno, New World Electronics, West Marine, Raymarine, and Coca-Cola for your continued support. I also want to thank all of our friends in the local media; Jeff Dute and The Mobile Press-Register, Wayne Gardner and Sean Sullivan from 106.5 FM talk, Comcast, WABB, WKSJ, WNTM, WALA, WPMI, and WKRG. Finally I would like to thank the Mobile County Commission, the Town of Dauphin Island along with its Mayor, Town Council, and Police Department, the Mobile Jaycees, and all of the volunteers who contribute so much of their time and efforts to the ADSFR.
The Executive Committee, Board of Directors, Advisors, and I thank you for your participation in the 77th Annual Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. Good luck, safe fishing and we will see you at the weigh station.
Sincerely,
Randy Brooks
President
